Chandrasekhar centenary activities : October 2011

In October 2010 the Nehru Planetarium, New Delhi, was reopened to the public, following the inauguration of a new show - Chandra - A stellar life which had been specially prepared for the Chandrasekhar centenary.

This program has been shown to the public using the newly installed hybrid projector at the planetarium during the year October 2010-October 2011.

On the 19th of October 2011, a half day workshop for invited school students will be held at the planetarium with the following schedule:

9:30 AM – 10:10 AM : Nobel Laureate S. Chandrasekhar: His Life and Works, by Prof. Bimla Buti

10:10 AM – 10:50 AM : Blackholes, by Prof. Panchapakesan

10:50 AM – 11:30 AM : Dynamical Friction, by Prof. Patrick Das Gupta

11:30 AM – 12:10 AM : Viewing of the planetarium program Chandra : A stellar life

12:20 AM – 12:50 PM : White Dwarfs by Dr. N. Rathnasree

12:50 PM – 1:30 PM : Series paintings and landscapes, a full dome presentation

Schools interested in sending a group of 10-15 students of classes IX or higher, may send an e-mail to nehruplanetarium@gmail.com to register.
